Red White Blue Ice Cubes (Printer-friendly)

Layered blueberry, coconut and strawberry ice cubes add festive color and fruity chill to summer beverages.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1/2 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
02 - 1/2 cup strawberries, hulled and chopped
03 - 1/2 cup fresh coconut meat or unsweetened shredded coconut

→ Liquids

04 - 1 cup coconut water
05 - 1 cup natural blueberry juice
06 - 1 cup natural strawberry juice or cranberry juice

# How-To Guide:

01 - Wash and hull strawberries, then chop into small pieces. Rinse blueberries. If using fresh coconut meat, cut into thin shavings.
02 - In each ice cube slot, add blueberries to fill approximately one-third of the compartment. Pour blueberry juice just to cover. Freeze for about 1 hour until solid.
03 - Once the base is frozen, add a layer of coconut meat or a sprinkle of shredded coconut on top of the frozen blueberries. Pour coconut water to fill up to two-thirds height. Freeze for another hour until firm.
04 - Top each compartment with chopped strawberries. Pour strawberry or cranberry juice to fill the trays to the top. Freeze until fully solid, approximately 2 additional hours.
05 - Unmold the layered ice cubes and serve in lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails for a vibrant presentation.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • Each cube is like a secret flavor burst—your drink keeps changing as the layers melt.
  • You don’t have to be precise: playful marbling and uneven layers only make them more charming.
02 -
  • Impatience ruins the layers—pouring on the next juice too soon will make the colors blur (unless you want marbled cubes, which are also fun).
  • Using room temperature liquids made for clearer, more distinct layers in the cubes.
03 -
  • Chilled trays help set the first layer faster and make layering easier.
  • A thin knife run around the edge of each cube helps pop them out without breaking the layers.
